Spying on Spelling
(recommended for ages 6 1/2 - 8)
Be a Spelling Spy! Enhance your child's spelling strategies by sending them on secret spy adventures. In this exciting class, each student becomes a secret agent on a special case. Every secret agent receives messages in the mail with coded information to lead them on a wild chase. Your child learns spelling strategies while unraveling a mystery. The class includes a spy kit, a spelling workbook and secret agent code cards.


Countdown to Kindergarten
(recommended for ages 4 1/2 - 6 1/2)
The Countdown To Kindergarten class helps both parents and children get ready for the first day of school with interactive activities and skill building games. We provide the information and preparation to get you kindergartener off to a great start. Our Countdown To Kindergarten Calendar gets your child on schedule and fired up to start kindergarten. Academic skills and social readiness are very important to a good school experience, so Countdown To Kindergarten is always a small class with lots of individual attention to make sure each child has the academic and social skills every successful kindergartener needs!

Creative Reading
(Level 1 - recommended for ages 4 1/2 - 6)
(Level 2 - recommended for ages 6 1/2 - 8)
Learn to read through art! Creative Reading will enhance your child's reading skills with fun interactive projects. Your child will become a stronger reader with instruction that includes painting, clay work, glitter and much more. The Creative Reading class has two different levels. The Creative Reading I is for emerging readers, and Creative Reading II is designed for children who know how to read at basic levels and are ready to move up to the next level and become Power Readers! This class includes a bag, workbook and art supplies.

BASIC CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

We offer two programs held twice a week for a period of 6 months, limited to 6 children.

Building Blocks of Reading
(recommended for ages 4 - 5)
Get your child ready for reading in Building Blocks, Upgrade Reading's NEW class. This class will get your child's mind ready for reading by learning comprehension strategies including visualization, sequencing, making predictions and placement. We will also introduce the sounds of letters and work with 3-D letter shapes. Learning the foundation of reading has never been more fun. The best part is that the curriculum is age appropriate, multi-sensory and engaging. Research suggests that children who learn how to read in a way that makes sense to the child the first time around, will feel and become successful readers later in life. We don't want to push our children into reading, we want them to fall in love with it and in turn, reach their full potential. abc! Basic Code
(recommended for ages 5 - 6)
This class teaches one sound letters and vowels. It is specifically designed for nonreaders such as a kindergartener or beginning first grade students. Each week students learn new words, the sounds that represent them and how to fluently read them. This class typically finishes in 5 months, at which point students can fluently read and spell over 20 words and can read basic sentences. This class is intended to give students a strong foundation in reading. If your child is experiencing difficulty in reading, we are happy to provide individual tutoring.


Intermediate Code
(recommended for ages 5 - 6)
This class teaches how to segment and how to blend 4 sounds, diagraphs such as 'sh', 'ch', 'th', 'ck' 'ed' and 'oi' and fluent word reading. This class is intended for children who know how to read words with one sound letters and can blend them easily. At the end of this class your child should be able to read up to 40 words and know how to spell them.


Advanced Code 1
(recommended for ages 6 1/2 and up)
This class is for students who know the sounds and letter names of the 26 letters in our English alphabet and can segment and blend words with 4 sounds. In this class, students learn multiple letter sounds such as, 'oa', 'ow', 'o-e', 'oe', 'o' and 'ough' as well as, efficient ways to break down multi-syllable words. There is no guessing or memorizing, only clear explicit instructions, which are age appropriate and engaging. In 6 months, students develop phonemic awareness, fluency and good spelling habits.


Advanced Code 2
Advanced Code 2 allows students to excel in their reading skills. The students learn through strategies that are scientifically proven as the most effective ways to teach reading and achieve reading excellence through fun interactive games. Both kids and parents enjoy the excitement brought to the learning experience. This class builds upon Advanced Code 1 and can not be entered until the first class is completed. We will continue to work on decoding, spelling, and fluency, as well as learn oral and silent reading skills. In this class students learn skills that allow them go to the next level in reading.


Mastering the Code
In this class we are going to do exactly what the class title suggests, master the English written code. In 4 months your child will review the code, learn how to break down multi-syllable words, analyze parts of speech, and enhance their vocabulary and work on fluency. This class builds off of the Advanced Code class and gives your child an extra edge in reading. The techniques used in this class are years above what is happening in school classrooms and are just what your child needs to help them succeed in reading.
